Is there a way to debug texting at carrier RF level?

I'm trying to figure out why I keep getting old texts back, it's super annoying and has been driving me insane to the point that I might just give in and get an iphone like everybody else. I don't really want to spend that kind of money, and give up the privacy aspects of a custom rom though.

I have not been able to find much help on this as I seem to be the only person having the problem. I tried different texting apps and different ROMs. I want to try to dive more deeper into troubleshooting it as it seems I'm on my own on this one. As a start I want to try to find out if my phone is sending some kind of signal randomly to the tower to request old messages, or what. If my phone is not doing anything when this happens then maybe it's actually an issue with my family's phones, but I can't see how all of their phones would be having the same problem.

Is there any way to debug this or make it stop?

I keep finding that in my search but that's not really the problem I'm having, also not using Google anything, this is just normal texts. This is the same phone, I didn't delete the original texts either. I just get every text 3-4 times over the course of a week, every couple days. Seems to affect group conversations more.

I actually sent an email to deve of QKSMS for a feature request to see if he is willing to add a feature in to ignore texts with an old sent date. If by chance that does get implemented it would fix the problem, hopefully. Right now I'm just going through and manually deleting them so the conversations are less confusing. Sometimes I get a text like "I'm coming over" and I have to check the date to see if it's actually a new text. Quite annoying.

Nothing there either. This seems to be a really weird issue that only I'm having. I found people having similar issues on google with no answers either but not to the extent I'm having it. They get duplicate texts right away. Me it's days later, the whole conversation basically replays, but not always in same order.

I'm at a point where I'm even ready to pay someone money.

Found a lot of that too, but it's the opposite issue for me. I keep getting old texts back as if they were new. Basically the conversation just replays, but not always in right order either. I need to start tracking the exact date/times to see if there's some pattern, like if it's consecutive how long before I get the repeats. It seems to be about 3 days.

Could it be someone in your contacts that's having issues, and resending to you? Any common denominator in repeated texts?

It seems to happen a lot in group conversations with my parents and sister, but it's only me that's getting the repeat texts. I occasionally get repeat texts from other people too, but they are the people I text with the most. I doubt it's their phones or they would have lot of people mentioning it to them. Unless it's only doing it to Android phones for some reason.

We're more on the DMS and fibre transport side we don't do much with cell stuff. Most of that is contractors.

But you must know some of them? I am guessing the custom ROM you got is borking time sync by a few ms.

Tried getting a new sim card and transferred service over to it. Still happening.

How critical is time sync for texting? Maybe my NTP server is not fast enough? It's virtualized. I might look into a Stratum 1 source and see if it fixes the issue. On second thought this happens when I'm at work too... so I'd be using whatever NTP server the public wifi uses. So don't think it's a time sync issue.

Interestingly I found this: https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Android/issues/5396

This is more or less the issue I'm having, except when I was using Signal (for texting) I never had the issue, but they dropped texting support a while back so that's when the issue came back as I had to use a different app. All the other apps I've tried have the issue.

I am saying your custom ROM is messing up the time sync, nothing to do with the NTP server
