Not sure if this thread is suppose to be in here, but I'm wondering is there a way to Copy Right a CD so it cannot be copied?

No matter what they develop, there are millions of people that will attempt to crack it and a few will be successful.

Although a company is testing out their new development in Canada on the (I think Radiohead) Radiohead cd.

No copy protection to date has been able to keep out the most dedicated crackers.
(note I didn't say encryption)

If you copy protect something that can be read SOMEHOW, someone can and will reverse-engineer it. But, it does keep out the general public from copying it.

Well, isn't that program that comes with that new Plextor Premium 52x CDRW lets you password protect a CD so you need to put in a password to see what's inside? Is there any other programs that can do that?

Well I don't have to worry about nobody cracking it, I just don't want friends copying my CDs that I let them burrow, that's all.

Sounds like what amnesiac said... that sounds like encryption. It can still be copied though.

Personally I'd be more worried about them burrowing into your CDs 😉

Um, why?

Don't let them borrow your CDs then, freak.

Because it's minnnnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeee

So don't let them borrow it then, and tell them to get their ass down to The Whorehouse and buy their own copy. 😉

If you happen to know the answer, the record companies and the RIAA would REALLY LIKE TO KNOW. 😉

If it could be done, don't you think the industries that are blaming billions of dollars in losses would do it?

Ahhh... I remember those days when we had you use sheets of paper for codes... because those damn floppys were so darn easy to copy =D

Let me just say that I don't know WHY you would want to do this, but anyways..........

In WMP9, can't you rip them with DRM? Or just rip it for them in a low bitrate. I dunno.

I still don't know why you are worried about this, unless you have this MASSIVE collection of CD's that you are constantly adding to, and your friends just come and mooch off you ALL the time just to copy/burn your cd's. But that would have to be extreme also.

you sound like this guy I knew in the Apple ][ days, he had a relative that was an apple programmer and sent him every game...he carried them in two cigar boxes packed. My brother and I were the only ones with the hardware (//e enhanced, almost all expansions, printer, 4 drives) so if we let him play we could copy a disk....only one per time, then he started getting greedy and wanted only to offer one every 10 times...we had access to most of these games through long distance BBS systems but even though the disks were only 143k downloading over long distance at 1200 baud (2400 was out but most BBS's only had 1200 open to those outside the inner circle) and sometimes even less was expensive and as a kid I had no income 🙂.

anyways we found identical cigar boxes and loaded them with floppies....we swapped them out with his one day, once he left we copied everything he had 🙂 several hours later we knocked on his door and told him he took our disk box instead of his, he thought we were trying to pull a fast one, but when he checked the ones he took home he almost cried and asked "did you copy them?", we acting shocked as if we didn't think of it heheeh. That day was the last day he played apple games outside of school until about 3 years later when he got a beat up //c.
