Is there a way to connect my Wi-Fi enabled phone to my Wireless laptop?

I'm trying to connect my phone to my laptop, through the router or directly, it doesn't matter.. Is there any way to do this? I can't see the phone under 'Network Connections' so maybe they aren't compatible or something.. I don't know.

The laptop is Vista and the phone is a Nokia N78..

You should have no problems connecting it to the router's wireless. Make sure you are broadcasting the SSID. Otherwise you'll have to use windows internet connection sharing and a wired connection on your laptop. I don't even know if the phone will support an ad-hoc wireless network which is what your laptop would be presenting.

But really just have it attach to your already working wi-fi.

Yea its no problem connecting the phone to the network.. Its just getting the laptop to recognise the phone thats the problem, i'd like to be able to copy music and pictures etc to and from the two without having to connect through the USB cable.

Bluetooth, not wifi for this

My roomate has an HTC Touch Pro, and it comes with an application that offers connect to IP on his Vista laptop. He simply types in the wifi IP address of his phone, enters the password, and baboom, connected.

Yeah Bluetooth file transfer service works pretty well for copying files to/from phones. Only thing is that speeds suck, I get like 70KB/s transferring files to my HTC Touch. Then again, this isn't a big deal if you're not transferring a lot of data.

If you wanted to share over WiFi, you could set up a local FTP server (I'd assume there is FTP client software available for your phone's OS). At least that's what I use for local file sharing, there are probably easier ways, though. Maybe Samba or something like that.

Is that what you're looking for?

I think my Sony Ericsson G705 can connect to Internet via my laptop as well, but through the USB. I dunno, too lazy to read the manual. However, why would you want to connect it to your laptop in the first place when you have a laptop?

I don't need to connect to the internet through my phone, i just want to be able to transfer files between the two using the wifi connection, as my laptop doesn't have Bluetooth..

Edit: That My Wifi application looks good, looks like it only runs on Centrino 2 laptops though..

Something like that would be ideal, unfortunately i don't think my phone has that option..

Bluetooth would be good, but my laptop doesn't have Bluetooth.. Maybe i'll give your other idea a try.. Thanks.
