Is there a way to compare raw performance of ancient and modern video cards?

So I just installed Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 for teh lulz (btw it runs great in win 7 x64 without any tweaking save an ini edit to set custom resolution).

If I remember correctly, I had to run it at 800x600 and medium settings to make it playable with my Voodoo 5500. It was pretty nice to see it run 1680x1050 (or so) with 8xSSAA with no hitches. I never thought in those days that the game could ever look so crisp, with 0 jaggies and shimmering.

So I was wondering, in terms of raw performance, how does my Radeon 6850 compares to my old Voodoo 5500? is it tens of times, or perhaps hundreds of times faster?
