Is there a way to block these spam texts I keep getting?

I keep getting random text messages from numbers like 778-93 690-97 etc....it's starting to get annoying, especially since I don't know how it started.

Is there a way to block stuff like this?

You can block texts sent from email/internet but I don't know if you can do it from phone to phone without either canceling texting all together or paying Verizon to allow blocking. I would either call them or try checking their site.

What kind of phone do you have? If you have a Blackberry you can use a program called Black and Whitelist. http://software.crackberry.com/product.asp?id=12708

You may be able to get your cell phone provider to block them for free. If they won't do it then your options are to either pay for a program to do it or pay for the carrier's parental controls which let you limit who can send or receive text/calls to your phone.

I have an enV2 from Verizon. I was planning to switch to an iPhone this fall with my wife, and we werent going to have unlimited texting anymore, so we definitely don't want to waste our plans texts/pay for these spam texts to come thru.

I think these are internet based texts, judging by the phone numbers only being 5 digits.

u can disable premium messaging from your verizon account
