Microshafts server is always bogged down & this is a real unwanted chore on a 56k connection!

Thanks.
I'm guessing these are for WinMe too, but figured I'd better ask to be sure so I dont end up having to format twice next time.

So, at the risk of asking a stupid question, here goes....

Are these the same ones the auto update uses for WinMe?

What you also could do is use ghost to ghost your system, all you do is get the system how you want it. Maybe about 1.4gig and ghost it using high compression. Then you can use your CDRW to create a boot cd. You can either hex it or use easy cd creator 4.2. I would rather you use easy cd creator. Then drag your ghost image to the box with ghost and your boot record. Then presto, you have yourself a restore disk. It beats FFR. When you are ready to restore, goto the bios make the cdrom bootable and then save and exit. When you get to the command prompt just type ghost and then copy your image back to your hardrive. FDISK FORMAT REINSTALL is a major PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Goodluck!!! :D

ssteele,
Funny you should say that.

I'm getting replies to my Ghost questions in the software forum as I type!

Ghost?

If it will restore exact copy of the original system, what's the point of re-format the HD?

I just got Ghost for X-mas & I'm just getting ready to use it.

But of course I wanna do a clean install of everything 1st & was hoping I could avoid the updates for the 100th time.

Well Guy it depends. People use ghost for different things for their own reasons. Me, I use ghost because I like to learn different operating systems. I have four perfect images. They are win98, winnt4.0, windows2000, and unix. I learn more and more everyday. Its what I like to do not to mention networking and best of all tweaking operating systems. I am also a hardcore gamer. Both me and my wife are. We have an internal network and we love quake and unreal. She kicks butt in quakeIII. I have a tough time winning against my wife. But I will tell you its not because of computer performance issues I assure you. Getting back to the point. Ghost is a great tool for imaging. Its great for servers and best of all its great for a fast configured operating system. It really saves alot of time. Imagine installing an OS in 5 to 7 min already configured. Then again if people want to FFR then so be it. Like I said, people like to use ghost for their own reasons. Personaly to me ghost is the tool for me.

I use PowerQuest's DriveCopy 3.0 for backing up / cloning my hard drives. That requires two hard drives. I keep one as the backup. Next time I use Drivecopy then the old backup drive, now the new drive, is used.

Cloning your hard drive about once a week or every two weeks should ensure you have a good OS all the time.
