Is there a virus that can render a hard drive useless (i.e. kill it permanently)?
This past week has been pissing me off. A few days ago I had a brand new Maxtor drive fail on me. Today, a 6 month-old Quantum drive failed, as well. From both AMD systems, I got a Primary Drive Fails error during startup. I tried running Maxtor's Power MAX software on both. They failed the Bios Extension support test.
I'm exploring my options here. I'm trying to pinpoint why I had two consecutive drive failures in one week. Both systems have ASUS mobo (A7A266 and A7V133) and 1Ghz Athlon 266FSB CPUs. The only surviving system is the one I'm on. My PII-350 from Gateway.
A year ago I heard something about a virus that can "kill" a system. I'm just wondering if there is a new variant out. I run Noroton AV 2002 on all three systems. Thanks..
