Is there a vendor that sells pretested C2D's?

If I were to build a system for a friend I'd rather have a guaranteed overclock.

...? I seriously seriously doubt it. Go buy a e6400 and I assure you will get over 3gHz. I would be more worried about the board you use than your prcoessor. 680i ftw

The thing is though that there is no gurantee a chip will OC to the same heights on another mobo. It could go lower or it could go higher. Just no way to gurantee it.

Check ebay, but again, different mobo, RAM, and Cooling will make the results vary!

Back in the days of the Celeron 300A there were quite a few vendors that were selling pre-tested cpu's.

Seeing how overclockable the current C2D's are I would expect the same to pop up now.

But you may be right, there are a lot more variables today than there were 9 years ago.

@supafly,

Nice rig you have there. Are you overclocking? If so what are you getting?

If not why do you have the Big Typhoon and consider water cooling?

Ah yes, the good old atacom.com days. Haven't seen anyone offer those kind of "services" to the public in quite some time. Have to assume they recieved "cease and desist" type letters from the legals.

Yeah I'm overclocking. On air I am stable at 3.5GHz at 1.4V (set at 1.4V in BIOS) with my RAM at 1200MHz at 5-5-5-15. I've got my watercooling kit, I've just been too busy to install it. I think I'll get around to it in a couple weeks. I just haven't had a long block of time that I can dedicate to it, and I really want to in case I mess up.

i'd like someone to just test to see if a chip has that concave crap which keeps it from being cooled efficiently. my E6700 idled at 39c with stock clocks on water cooling. :(
