Greetings,

I've googled a bit, but been unable to find out what the standard size of a movie DVD is... The DVD in my drive is showing as 7. something GB... which, from what I've read, isn't the size a DVD is supposed to be. So... Did I waste my money on buying 4.7 GB DVD-R discs? When I tried to use Clone DVD, it wants to put the DVD movie onto two discs... How do I do a one for one copy?

Thanks!

What you are asking for is essentially illegal information, and cannot be divulged by forum members... there's a reason why DVDs are copy protected - if you copy them to a hard drive they won't play properly. The only way would be to burn on-the-fly 1:1 from a source DVD to a DVD burner...

You havent read enough or have been reading bad info. There really isnt a standard DVD size. Some companies try to put out 4.7 GB discs. Other like to have all the extra goodies on on side and end up making it almost 9 GB. Your burner can write 4.7 GB discs but can read 9 GB. Sometimes they put in fluff data to make it harder for people who have 4.7 GB burners.
You didnt waste any money. Just use DVDshrink and then burn it.

OR you could get a dual-layer burner and discs. Then when you use DVDshrink you arent limited to 4.7 GB. This will help with the image quality.

Well, if he's got DL disks then he can just burn an ISO copy using cloneDVD or whatever, without bothering with DVDShrink I would think...

Nothing is illegal about making a back up copy
As for the 1:1 copy that is no problem as long as the media is large enough, you will need a DL disc :)

I think CloneDVD requires that the DVD not have encryption, so you would still need DVDDecrypter ...

In the good ole US of A., according to the RIAA and the digital copyright act it is illegal to break the encryption, EVEN FOR PERSONAL USE SUCH AS MAKING BACK-UP COPIES

That's the law, but does it stop anybody? Is it stupid? NO and YES!

Nice try dude!

Use DVD decrypter to rip DVD to HD. You also need a Dual Layer DVD burner and media to fit all on a disc.
