Is there a trick to using a DVI->VGA connector?

I am trying to drive my primary CRT monitor off the DVI port of my OEM 8500 LE (PowerColor) using a DVI-to-VGA adapter but can't get it to work. On system boot, the monitor never sees a signal from the port/connector. Anything I might be overlooking?

cheers.

Do you have the bios set to look for AGP? I've got 3 AIW cards, I just plug the DVI>VGA connector on, and it works.

Same here - I have twin CRTs on my PowerColor RV2LE (7500LE), the boot output is mirrored to both, and as soon as the OS takes over, I get separate screens.

I am not sure how to set up the bios for AGP, although I suspect that might not be the problem. If I use the VGA out port (the card has VGA, DVI and TV out ports) directly, there is no problem and the monitor sees a signal on boot. However, if I attempt to plug the monitor (I am using only one) into the DVI port using the connector, nada. Is there a possibility the card isn't sending a signal to the DVI port on boot (remember, in my case, only one port is connected at any given time)? Is there a way to check? I need to figure out if I have a bad card, or a bad connector.

Where did you guys get your connectors?

cheers.

The system BIOS has no control over what the graphics card's VGA BIOS does. You can only choose which one of multiple VGA _cards_ to make the primary card, but you can never choose which one of multiple _channels_ on one single card to use.

Standard behaviour with Radeons seems to be to mirror the boot output onto all heads. Can you fire up the DVI head in the operating system? If that doesn't work either, then I'd say something's wrong in hardware.
