Any tips/tricks anyone knows?

I have a decent blender and would like to make a good shake every once in awhile if possible rather than spending $7 at Cold Stone.

:milkshake;

My milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard :Q

Personally, do the "shakin'" by hand.

Homemade milkshakes can be BETTER than anything you can buy... if you make them right. My recipe:

1) Put 5 scoops of French Vanilla ice cream in a blender
2) Add a little whole milk
3) Add a few drops of vanilla extract
4) Blend

Total winnage. :)

add a bannana

try adding an egg

all kinds of candy you can add depending on what you want.

Carnation instant breakfast (vanilla) mixed with milk, egg or two, vanilla ice cream is awesome. Want chocolate just use chocolate ice cream and chocolate carnation etc.

Start out with Vanilla:

4 generous scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream
3 shots of Vanilla Syrup (it's like Chocolate Syrup or Strawberry Milk syrup)
Fill up 1/2-way with milk

More ice cream = thicker, more milk = liquid-ier (to drink through a straw). The secret ingredient is the Vanilla Syrup.

I've got the flavor down, the problem I have with homemade shakes is separation. Within 30 seconds of coming out of the blender, the bottom is liquid & the top all icy.

MALT! Lots of good ideas in here, going to try some of them myself, but I think malt is one of the more important parts.

step 1: drive to wendy's
step 2: order frosties
step 3: drive home
step 4: pour frosties into blender container
step 5: tell all your friends you made it yourself

big success! :p

Use a lot of ice cream. You're not gonna get the consistency you want if you don't.

then you are no longer making a milk shake, you are making a malt...the only way to use malt is to use LOTS of malt.

there is a BIG difference between the two :p and malts pwn milkshakes.
