Is there a state law about when a bill has to arrive before it's due?

nope, there isn't. I have been foiled by this a few times. MBNA usually sends me the bill 3 days before the bill is due. It pushes everyone to do it online.

Usually the terms for a credit card will spell out how many days ahead they agree to provide the bill to you. All of mine have been at least 20 days.

I've never heard of a law setting a minimum number of days, but I've also never had a bill arrive without at least 14 days to pay it.

If you're only getting bills a day before they're due you might ask the company what's up, and if you don't like the answer then contact your state Attorney General's office.

Edit: also check the address on the bill and make sure they don't have part of it wrong (bad Zip code, missing "NE" or "Ave" in street address, etc.

I had a Bank of New York card that would arrive either the day before it was due, the day it was due or the day after. Since I did not have a bank account with them, just a credit card, Icould not pay online. Only check i the mail or find one of their branches. I got hit with $35.00 late fee almost every friggen month. I could call and scream and complain and they would apologize but nothing changed. So, I just transfered it to another card. Now they are sending me all sorts of offers to get me back.

Not excusing their actions, but couldn't you have gone to a local branch and pay it?

if it is the same day every month, maybe you could just remember? like write it on something, maybe a calendar or sticky note

One of my first Credit Cards i had would send the bill on the day it was due. since there was no way to pay it on time they would charge you a late fee of $20. No matter how often you complained they wouldnt do anything about it. Finally had to cancel it.

if it's anything like the banks I deal with, the CC and the bank are practically 100% separate

Then Citibank is unique I guess?

I can't imagine there's a law anywhere. Every creditor I've ever dealt with has basically maintained a policy that you are responsible for paying whether or not you receive a statement. One month I forgot to pay a bill because I never got a statement that month. They waived the late fee since I was never late before.

After that, I wised up. On the 15th of the month, I just pay all my bills. If I haven't gotten a bill from one creditor or another, I call them up and get the balance due.

Yep. and had to almost every month. the nearest local branch is about 15 miles away. not really convenient when i had a days notice. i think that if i do not have the option to pay online, then i should get the bill in enough time to mail them a check.

Once you use a bank, they will never stop hounding you. I had a Capital One pre-paid CC 5 years ago. They discontinued the program and would only offer me a secured CC. I simply went to another bank. I am still getting specific offers (not general mailings) from them to this day, even after three moves.

Not entirely; I use USBank and they're pimping a credit card at me with one of the benefits being that I can pay the bill in my local office.

Mine's on my online banking website. Always see my balance. Can pay anytime anywhere there's internet or only a phone (automated stuff that works great).

Now if i could only get rid of all that junk they send me...
