Is there a solution for the nested INBOXes in Mac Mail?

If there is one, I have not been able to find it online.

That is one of a few things that will drive me to Thunderbird.

Can you post a screenshot, or perhaps explain what you are doing that is causing the nested inboxes?

Are you trying to get multiple accounts to feed into one inbox?

Alright, what email server are you connecting to, and how are you connecting?

Also, are any other devices connecting to the same server? The articles almost all say that it is Mail's problem, but I just wonder if it might be a weird combination of things that causes the problem.

One of the accounts connects to my brother-in-laws private server.

The second account connects to my work server.

I use a MacMini and a MacBook where I have Mail set up identically.

I also access to both accounts via my iPhone Mail app.

Both are IMAP.

Thanks.

Hrm, what OS are you running on each Mac, and is the problem evident on each Mac?

Snow Leopard on both.

The nested inboxes are evident on both Macs and the iPhone.

(Thanks for your help, BTW)

BTW, this behavior occurred when both Macs were running Leopard (before the upgrade), too.

(And before the iPhone upgrade from 3.0 to 3.1.)

Well, one thing to try would be to switch over your 2 least used to POP access, I know it isn't as handy as IMAP, but it can't hurt to try. If that corrects the problem, then you could bring another system back onto IMAP and see if it stays gone. I have very little deep understanding of how email stuff works beyond 'I log in and the little voice says "You've Got Mail!"'. But the problem probably won't happen on POP.

Another question, did you upgrade the systems to Snow Leopard?

These are the only two IMAP accounts.

Both systems are using Snow Leopard.

Right, you said that, but did you UPGRADE or CLEAN INSTALL?

Sorry: Upgrade.

Ok... have you tried deleting your Mail preference file on the offending systems and starting from scratch? I realize that it might take a while and be annoying, but I did read that it can be a solution

I have not tried that. If the problem had NOT pre-dated the upgrade to Snow Leopard, I probably would have tried it. Also, since it is the same on two different machines (which were set up at different times), that does not seem like the likely problem.

I guess if I really want to be sure, though, I will just have to try it.

Sigh...

The fact that it predates Snow Leopard, and you upgraded is what made me think to try it.
