Is there a software memory tester that actually works?

I've tried a few and they never seem to detect a bad stick of ram, even when I know the memory is bad.

ok, I'll have to give it a try.... Those hardware testers are so expensive.

Also it seems that the M$ memory tester can catch some error conditions that memtest can't. Use 'em both - both are 'free' DLs.

The "blend" torture test of Prime95 also has caught errors for me when memtest passed the sticks at the same speed -- memtest is pretty thorough for serious hardware problems, but overclocking stability issues may not show up until the CPU is under stress as well.
