Is there a Software Cable Descrambler out there or do I have to get a hardware piece for that?

I have a Cable TV line going straight into my computer through an I/O Magic PVR card. It works great so far.
I want to know if there is any Software Descrambler that I can get that will descramble ALL the channels?

Thanks

It greatly depends. With NTSC, your options seem to be limited; I failed to find a working NTSC decoder for my Voodoo3 3500 or my Hauppage WinTV, and my roomate couldn't find one for his ATI TV Wonder either. If you're in Europe however, there are a multitude of PAL decoders available.

Yes it is illegal and quite frowned upon here. Just because people use MP3's/warez/serialz/etc... here doesn't mean they go around asking about it or advertising it.

Now I do know of one legit reason you could be asking for this. You already have a cable subscription which includes the extra channels (HBO, showtime, etc...) but you can't view them on the computer as they require the decoder box. I had to deal with this myself as I have an AIW Radeon. Thus you are trying to view these channels that you do pay for on a TV without getting a decoder box which kind of defeats the whole purpose of a tv tuner card.

I remember searching for one earlier this year and I couldn't find one anywhere for my card. Maybe you can for yours.

Sigh, using a descrambler is not illegal aslong as you alert the cable company and subscribe to the channels you recieve (I believe unless this is just some extended bs that I have been fed)... Anyway, how about we just try to solve people's problems and assume that they are not attempting to utilize this knowledge to do something illegal. I mean, it is a person's choice to use the knowledge they have for good or bad or whatever, I don't think refusing to dole out little tidbits of knowledge will vastly change things in the big picture... Now, I have tried to find NTSC software descramblers and have turned up absolutely empty, I believe I found a suite that was written for the ATI tvtuner (forget model name), but that was useless seeing as I have a hauppage wintv (actually was a win-tv usb at the time I searched..)... I wonder how well descrambling would work on the software level, I mean by the time your computer touches the signal it has already been converted to a digital signal, so I wonder if descrambling techniques would work digitally, or if it is just analog interference that needs to be solved on the analog level... Sigh... I honestly don't know enough about the hardware on these tv-cards or just general television-lore to be able to answer definately. Best of luck, and keep us posted on your finds!

P.S. Please, pretty please, I do not wish to start a flameware or anything of the type, it has been a long day for all of us... or atleast myself.
