Is there a Socket-A KT133 M/B out there which doesn't have problems with the SB Live!?

I have tried every possible trick under the sun, but I simply cannot get my SBLive! to function without crashing on my ABIT KT7 Raid motherboard.

This leaves me to either get another motherboard which will not have issues, or get another sound card.

please help.
 
ijust got an abit kt7 raid and i have an sb live, haven't had the problem. disable your serial ports if you dont use them. also disable acpi, that might help free up some irqs. if you are interested this is my config...

I'm using a KT7-RAID with a SBLive Value with absolutely no problems. When I migrated my system, Win98SE detected every piece of hardware perfectly and I didn't have any problems at all with the drivers.

You have, I assume, started out with a clean system (preferably a blank hard drive and new installation of WindowsXX, but a previous installation with all items deleted from the Device Manager will do)? Start with only the video card installed, get all of its drivers functioning, then go on to install the sound card and all of its drivers, then NIC, then any additional cards, making sure there are no conflicts at each step.
 
Try installing in slot 4. Try the drivers that install with the Liveware3 download, and disable Sound Blaster Emulation in Device Manager. Remove any lines in autoexec.bat and config.sys that have to do with this device. Alternately, try enabling LPT sharing in the Settings section of that device in Device Manager. Turn off Creative Launcher in the .ini files and other Windows startup files using msconfig. Try changing the status of the 15-16M Memory hole in the MB bios.

Be sure you have all of the latest drivers for the MB and ANY OTHER DEVICES you are using.

I found GoBack an invaluable tool to troubleshoot this system. Load it right after Windows, 4 in 1, and Micron's ATA100 patch.

Keep tring, it's worth it!
 
My system is :

KT7 M/B RAID
AMD 600 Duron
192MB PC100 RAM ( 3 x 64MB )
300W Power Supply
20GB Seagate HD
Diamond Viper V770 TNT 2 Ultra 32MB
SoundBlaster Live! Value in PCI slot 4.
NICin PCI slot 3.
MS Windows 98
BIOS is UL.

My problem is anything that uses the sound card crashes my system. eg Red Alert 2 crashes after 15 mins. BG II crashes after 1 min!

I have SB 16 Off.
I have COM 1 and 2 off

I have installed :-
4.25a VIA 4in1,
VIA's USB Filter 1.08,
Detonator 6.35,
SB Live! latest drivers.

I installed the everything in the following order :
Windows 98
W98 Service Pack 1
VIA 4 in 1 service Pack
VIA USB filter driver
Direct X 7 and 7.0a
Detonator 6.35
Latest SBLive driver
HPT370

I have tried my SBLive and NIC in every possible comination that is humanly possible.

I would appreciate any help.
 
Every time I rebuild my system on a new motherboard, I find that putting the network card in the last or next to last slot, right after the sound card, works best. Right now they're in 4 and 5.
 
Wow that strange. I'm running on an A7V and using an MX300 - which everyone says isn't supposed to work. And i though the SBlives! were supposed to be the compatable ones!!
There are a few things you should disable which might help. Disable at all costs the MSDOS SB Emulation. Make sure to disable this in the system devices panel, as well as your autoexec.bat if your drivers happened to put something there as well. Also, you can try to disable the gameport on your Live. Freeing up resources is the key. It doesn't hurt to have the latest VIA 4in1 drivers installed either : )
 
Just taking a stab in dark here, but have you tried playing with you memory settings? Example the memory interleaving.
 
I have a SBLive Platinum and an ASUS A7V and have had no crashes or problems. Flash your BIOS, that might fix it.

Ive got the Sb Live and Sb Live Platinum, and have had no problems.

I have disabled the serial and parralel ports, and also ACPI.

 
i actually got a SBLv because of the crashing i was having, with my MX300.... that was more a driver issue tho... rather then a hardware issue...
