is there a simple program for transferring files between two computers?

aim is problematic for some reason. just looking for something where two people can easily transfer files over the internet. needs to be windows xp/2000 and os x compatible. tia

ftp is basic and works great. Just have one of you setup a server, serv-u is simple and easy to use. The other, just get an ftp client like cute ftp or ws ftp.

remote administrator by famatech will also allow file transfering www.famatech.com

FTP works great. I usually have an FTP server running on my computer so I can access my files when I'm away.

yeah, i've done that before... it just feels like a kludge solution. btw igowerf, i'm borrowing your photoshop of the duck for my desktop 🙂

You could try an MSN Messenger "Send a File or Photo" if a) both parties use MSN (although I don't know if the Mac client supports it) and b) it's only one or two small files.

OS X has the inherent ability to share files with Windows users whether it be LAN or FTP over the internet. Sharing files with OS X to mac or PC clients takes about all of 30 seconds to setup and requires no additional software.

Go into your help files and search for share files with windows or something of that sort. You will see how to do it. Once you setup your shared folders for windows users, its very easy. All the windows user has to do is log into the shared folder you make for them. Learn a little bit about user folder ownerships and accesses while your at it. OS X is very very secure and everything has an ownership. Even the admin cannot acess certain user folders unless he is given rights to by that owner or unless you use the root command.
