Is there a significant difference between CAS 2.5 and 3?

I've been thinking about overclocking my system a little more, but in order to do so, I would probably need to loosen the latency timings of my RAM a little more. I would probably have to raise the CAS latency from 2.5 to 3. Now I've heard that the latency timings are not near as much importance as the RAM and FSB speed and it's best advised to spend your money on a better video card or CPU, then to spend it on low latency RAM. But I've also heard that it's only true up to a certain point with latency timings, and that if they are too high, performance will suffer a lot. Now, would that happen if I raised the CAS latency from 2.5 to 3? Or is it worth it if I can successfully overclock the FSB and RAM another 15MHz with successful stability? And in general, is there a significant difference in performance between a CAS latency of 2.5 and a CAS latency of 3? I've heard that going any higher than a CAS of 3, performance suffers a lot. But I'm not sure about CAS latency from 2.5 to 3?
