Is there a roofer in the house??

I know this is way off topic, however, I need some advice. The house needs a new roof and, here in south Florida, the crooks and con men are as numerous as the roaches. Are there any knowledgeable, good souls out there who know what I should look for, what I should avoid, and what I should know before I get taken to the cleaners?? Thank you.

When you say roof, are you talking just the shingle, or applicable covering, or are you talking the whole deal including pulling up plywood and lumber and redoing that as well?

Call your insurance company, they might have a list of contractors they trust, and at the very least they should be able to offer some advice.

Where in S Florida? My brother lives in Miami Lakes and has had a roofing company (commercial and residential) for the last 30 years or so.

Most insurance companies will not recommend anyone, not here in NY at least. If there is a problem people always run back complaining to them, that is why they forbid it now.

Get 5 free quotes and then check them out with the local Better Business Bureau and Junior Chamber of Commerce. Also, make sure they are licensed and insured.

Thanks for all the replies, gents. I'm looking at doing a complete strip and reroof of an existing asphalt shingle type roof.
