Is there a reliable instant messenger?

I'm sick of the lost instant messages in ICQ. Some get through, some don't. Even if I'm not having connection problems. Are any of the other messengers more reliable?

I've heard AOL has the same problem. I haven't tried Yahoo since it's early stages, and it had the problem then. Have never tried MSN. Any of them any better?

Yahoo is decent now, though they sometimes have outages about once a month for a few hours or so. But nothing is foolproof, we get what we pay for, afterall...

Me either. AIM is the main messaging service I use. I used to use ICQ, but there is too much d@mn SPAM for me.

Looks like I might try AIM.

Yeah, the spam in ICQ is bad, but I just used the setting "only accept messages from users in my contact list" and the spam went away ;)

True, but isn't haveing to look at ads a way of paying? If I have to look at ads, I want better reliability than the 40-60% ICQ has been giving me.... It is nearing the point of being crippleware

There are no ads on MSN Messenger, or if there are I must have changed a setting because I don't get them. Seems fairly reliable I guess as far as getting your messages go, occasionally I'm not able to log on though (maybe 2 partial days a month). I like it better than the others anyway, been using it a little over a year so I can't really compare it to later versions of the others, but I liked it better when I switched and it's improved greatly since then (feature-wise, if you use all them). Guess if someone was being picky they could knock it for being part of "The Evil Empire". *shrug*

I never had any problems with ICQ loosing messages until not long ago. It turned out to be that they did something to their servers that made it funky with old versions of ICQ (I was using ICQ98 :Q).. So I gave in and upgraded to the new POS version.

I mainly use AIM and Yahoo now. Never really have any connect problems.. never had any lost messages, either.

I don't like MSN for some reason. It bugs me, lol.

I'm gonna have to chime in with AIM. If you install AIM+ as well, your buddy list window can be without ads, buttons, and an option for transparency. As for it's service, I haven't had any problems lately. In the past, I had some troubles connecting, but not anymore.
