Is there a reason why I've never met anyone known as Jesus?

I am solely talking about the name. In Mexico or in the Hispanic culture there are people named Jesus (Hey-zeus), however I have never met anyone called Jesus (G-sas).

why is that?

I dont think you would really meet anyone named Yeshu, anodoi or God because to most it would be considered Blasphemous or possibly inappropriate

Then why is that name extremely common in the Hispanic/Latino culture? I don't know if it's as common in other cultures.

it's just not an anglo name.

same reason you've never met someone called jean-pierre (pronounced jeen-pie-yer)

What are you talking about? Jesus in spanish is pronounced hey-sus which is the same thing as Jesus.

Or are you going to say that Adam in spanish does not equal Adam in english?

I don't know, but thanks for the laugh. BTW, I'm pertty certain that they do pronounce Jesus (as in the Messiah, gee-zus to us English speakers) down there as hey-sus in church as well as when refering to a person who currently exists. (The Pope said it was OK as a boy's name, since it was pretty much a culturally acceptable boy's name in south-central America anyway. I'm not sure what the protestants have to say, but AFAIK, Mexico is primarily Catholic, so I don't think it matters much.)

Jesus is the English Translation of Yeshu
Yeshu= Jesus in hebrew (Jesus was a Jew- Thats a fact not "Religous crap" thankyou)

As for the Catholic Religion and the way it works In Latin America I will have to plead the fifth as I do not know anything about that:)

It's a culture thing. Some culture might not see it as a bad/blasphemous thing, while others might.

Its seen as blastemous/innapropiate.

However people being named after Prophets or Apostles is pretty common, ie - David, John, Luke, Paul, Mary etc.

Jesus, Paul, Mary, Peter, etc are all 'english' names, and nothing like the original languages. Even God is not.

Many do think that english and latin was the original text though.

Because you don't know me. Granted, Jesus is not my birth name, but I'm known to many people as Jesus, if you saw me when I haven't shaved for a week you'd understand why. It also helps that when I was in highschool for celebrity day on spirt week I didn't shave for 2 weeks, put on a white robe, tied it with a rope and wore my usual Birkenstocks and everybody knew exactly who I was, I even had a few teachers bow down to me :D

I pretty sure that there is not a god and I'm pretty damn sure that if there is, it's not like the Christian god, but if Christians are right, I'm gonna burn.

What do you mean religious crap? Are you just dumb? I've never in my life seen anyone deny that Jesus was a Jew or call that "religious crap".

Yeshu has nothing do with anything, so why are you talking about "Yeshu" in this thread? Your Bible Study teacher give you any other juicy tidbits?

Jesus is an acceptable name in Latin America, it's not here. That's all there is to it.

99.9% of the Bible (including the part about Jesus being more than human) are not based on facts, so that will qualify as "Religious crap".

Every year, the Bible gets the shaft for "Best Work of Fiction." :p
