Just ask him to show you HIS copy of his DD-214.........everyone that has ever been discharged from the military gets his/her own personal copy. The smart ones register it with their county's/city's Dept. of Records.

That is a good idea. I think I may become smart soon.

Yes it is a pita to get another copy, my friend got a copy of his on microfilm when he lost his. Not to mention it took months for them to send it to him.

Dunno if this is a state-by-state thing or what, but mine was automatically filed with the state's main VA office. I emailed them, and they sent a copy to my local VA, and I just went it and showed my ID and picked it up. They were nice enough to send multiple copies, too, and it only took a few days.

I know this individual was in the army, but he maintains that he was honorably discharged. I don't think that's the case.

Is there a quick way to find out online?

Has he refused to show you his DD 214?

If he doesn't have a paper copy, he can use his AKO username and password to get it from ompf.hoffman.army.mil

He wants to prove that his friend is a liar.

And to the question of, "What business of yours if your friend is a liar..."

Some people care and are curious. Natural emotion for some of us to seek the truth.
