Is there a projector with ~20ft throw and ~5ft screen width? Can I get close?

I'm a teacher but I also do the lion's share of the IT work for my school. (Small school.) We have one teacher who would like to have a projector mounted at the back of the classroom to project onto a screen at the front.

It's about a 20' throw, and she has a pull-down screen that is roughly 4 or 5 feet wide. I can't measure exactly right now because they're in the middle of a lesson.

The projectors we have are all short-throw and the projected image comes out around 8 or 10 feet wide I think, but again I can't measure right now. I will get more specifics as soon as I can.

In the meantime though, I'd love to know if what she wants to do is even possible. We would be willing to settle for a 5 or 6' image even if that runs off the screen a little bit, but the current image is just too large to be practical. Only about 1/4 to 1/3 of the image actually sits on the screen. Are there projectors that can project an image that tightly? If so, what are some models to look at?

That is going to be pretty hard to find I think. Why so far back? what is wrong with overhead mount?

We've been told that mounting the projector to the ceiling is not possible. I don't remember the exact reason, but it's not your typical schoolroom drop ceiling, nor is it drywall. It's some weird kind of tile I haven't seen elsewhere.

I suppose I should do my due diligence and make sure we can't mount to the ceiling, but that's what I was told.

what about just using oldschool overhead projector with the LED attachment thing so you can use it like a projector, but it comes on a cart/table that can be wheeled around to different classrooms as needed?

lulz plenty of things have been mounted to all types of ceilings. And projectors are not exactly heavy these days.

It turns out the maintenance team's point was that the current projector didn't come with a ceiling mount. So fine, that's a far easier (and less expensive) fix. We buy a ceiling mount.

@BurnItDwn - She already has a projector on a cart. The problem is that the wireless is spotty in her room, so it helps to be hardwired to the network, and wheeling a cart that's dangling a power cord and an ethernet cable through a room full of 4th graders is annoying at best.

I do appreciate all the suggestions. AT is awesome!

lulz, are you kidding me? They didn't want to mount on the ceiling because you don't have a mount handy????

Well, at least now you can buy basically any projector and mount it properly with the target width of 5'. First plan, then review plan, then review again.


I just realised you mean 5' wide and not diagonal. Is the screen 4:3 or 16:9?

Are you getting a new projector or just a mount now? 😛
