You want to make flash, or do you want to use flash programs and websites?
Adobe flash 9 is available for linux (and you should get a prompt to install it when you visit a site that uses flash), however I do not believe there is any flash authoring software available for linux.

It's not macromedia anymore, now it's Adobe Flash CS3 Professional.
http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/
Adobe bought macromedia a long time ago.

Unfortunately, there is no flash production program for linux. I doubt it would work in Wine either, however you could always virtualize an instance of windows within linux (virtualbox provides good integration between windows virtual machines and linux hosts), though there would be a performance impact for doing so. (possibly minor)

Apparently wine will work with macromedia flash 8 though and flash mx, no idea how well.

WINE isn't an emulator so usually running something under it results in almost the same performance as running it native on Windows.

IF it runs. Sometimes it can be faster.
For something like Flash, I'd say virtualization would be a decent answer if you want to keep your main system linux without rebooting. Virtualbox is free, easy to integrate, and offers near native speed for cpu limited stuff.

I'm new to using Ubuntu, but I know I've read on the ubuntu forums that WINE will run Flash, Dreamweaver, ... etc.
