make any software password protected? Like if I to open Window Media player another program pops up asking for a password before WMP can open.

I have no idea...but I guess if you're some sort of admin you can figure this stuff out... I guess?

Actually permisions won't work here as it's a business computer (only one) and they only use one log on ( he does not want to add any more😕 ). So if there is such a proggy I would be more than gratefull🙂.

So do all users have the same rights? Is there just one user that needs to access everything?

Or will there be different passwords for different apps?

If the first option is the case... permissions would still be the best option.

Then the "super user" could just Shift + Right-Click and run as administrator.

I will look for a solution though. I dont' think there are many around anymore. There used to be a few for the windows 98 platform.

Thank you I will await your responce. Or can you explain that permission thing a little better for the XP platform. I Know I can figure it out myself but I don't have XP here and it would save me the trouble of figuring it out in my clients office.

Ok....

I don't have a lot of time to spend on this right now. Keep in mind that to have full access to restricting users, this business should be using WindowsXP Pro, not Home.

I found the following link which includes a link to a third party app if that is the way you have to go.

Restricted Users

I can not vouch or say anything about this app since I have no experience with it.

I wish I had time to search for you more, but there is a post there that tells you how to find application security. You will just need to create a rule there that denys your "Limited" users to access XX applications.

OK thanks, Im checking out the link now. Also they do have XP pro.

In that case, I would really try to set up a "limited" account. Might as well use the features built in to the OS.

Not exactly...

Lets say you lock out MS Word to the "limited" user.

You would just shift + right-click on the Word icon and then go to "Run As"

Then you can type in the Administrator Username and Password

So basically, only two accounts will need to be set up.

1. An administrator username password. Or, the built in adminstrator account can be used. Just make sure it has a password.

2. A limited username and password
