Is there a process or something i can kill to stop sound in vista x64?

Sometimes sound crashes and it would be useful to have a process i can kill to stop the sound loop, it would be great if i could also restart the process and get sound back somehow.

Its just certain older programs that cause this to happen, not much i can do to prevent it really, got the latest drivers etc. Normally i have to restart when sound crashes.

In administrative cmd prompt, try

net stop Audiosrv
net start Audiosrv

might work, can't be sure as I'd have to find a way to crash my audio to test ;-)

It depends on where the crash is, if it's in the driver then you're screwed unless you can force an unload/reload or restart of the driver.

Ok it didnt work when sound crashed. I blame it on the mega drive emulator im using, it hasent been updated since 2006, i cant find an up to date one at all actually. Vista changed the way sound works so its probably something to do with that.
