im lookin to upgrade my mobo. Got a XP1800 CPU, 2x256 megs of crucial DDR @ 266MHZ. would there be a performance benefit? i thought about the update because i wanted a 5.1 sound card and the nforce hsa nice sound built in. but what about my ram? since its only capable of runnin 266mhz and the nfroce runs at 333mhz?

I'd say live with the kt266a

if you only want it for 5.1 audio, get a sblive/audigy/whatever for 30 bucks OEM at newegg

You might see like a 3fps benefit total on the nforce2

the nforce2 doesn't run at 333mhz, it has the option too run at 333mhz

But unless you want a 33mhz chip (2700+) I'd say live with your current configuration

IMO, if you are ready to upgrade, or close to it, and want to do it in smaller steps, go for an nForce2 board. You can use your current stuff, and be able to add to it as money permits. The nForce sound is very good and you would have the ability to add other things later (8X AGP, Barton CPU, Faster DDR RAM etc.)

Do it! You can lock your PCI/AGP if your gonna overclock........thats what I need....plus you can get the Epox 8RDA+ which has Soundstorm for $108 shipped from TCWO.com.
