Is there a place where I could check which coolers will fit on my M2N-E?

That one will fit on an AM2, the other, "normal" 9500 won't.

Is this cooler worth $9 more than the Scythe Mine?

Yes! If you get the scythe mine, you will have wasted $35. It does not fit am2. You will need to purchase a separate retention bracket (probably the $9 difference) for it to fit. That makes both coolers a rippoff.
My recommendation is a freezer 64 pro. It DOES fit am2. It's also $21 shipped @ provantage.com

EDIT: A little info on the freezer 64 pro: It is probably the best value cooler due to its low price and falls short by like 1c to the scythe mine. It actually beats the zalman in some tests. It lags a little in noise, but it is a little smaller. 92mm fan like the zalman as opposed to the 100mm scythe fan. Pretty easy to install from what I hear as well.

Inspire bought a Scythe Mine for his M2N-E. I wonder if he needed a retention bracket. Thanks I'll look into the freezer 64 pro. The RAM or chipset won't get in the way of this cooler right?
edit: You were right. I saw two diffrent Scythe Mine's on newegg's site. One was more expensive than the other. The more expensive one was this: Text and it supports AM2. So you were right, it costs more money.
edit 2: Is this what you're talking about? Text

Hmmm... i'll shoot him a PM.
To your question: Naw, it's not very wide. The m2n-e heatpipe it pretty low profile and the fins of the freezer rise almost an inch above the contact.
