Is there a patch for AMD/SBlive?

I have been told that there is but I haven't found it.

It does not want to share IRQ with anything
A nasty crackling. (usually a restart settles that):D:|:(:Q:)

Well I dont know what the patch does, just that a friend installed it on his bosses machine (who was having some problem, dunno what)and he doesn't remember where he got it.

Quake3 is crashing, otherwise everything is pretty cool. The SBLive is sharing IRQ with the GeForce. Is that a problem? Is there an optimal arrangement of IRQ's. I'm told by my tech support buddy to leave that alone. If I screw it up he'll be pissed!

Move the live...it can share with some stuff but Q3 is likely crashing cause you are sharing that IRQ with your GTS...that is your problem...generally people leave the first slot open, and so it shares with tha AGP slot (cause you will have nothing in one or the other (most users)

If you install win2k than all of your IRQ woes *should* dissappear.

Other than that I can't help you. I assume you've tried all differnt slots and manually assigning IRQs in your BIOS/control panel?

I moved the live twice. Originally it shared IRQ with the nic and THAT made it crash more. One time I moved it and could't get out of safe mode. I never used the first slot, it's partially blocked by the GeForce fan anyway. I don't know how to manually assign IRQ's but I have been advised against attempting that by my tech buddy (and I don't want to piss him off! He bails me out).

SB lives dont take well to sharing irqs very well AT ALL. If at all possible, give it it's own irq. You can see if it is your irq if you take out everything except for your sound card and graphics card and making them each have their own irq. It should work then.

The SBlive card will use 2 IRQs, one for SB Emulation and 1 regular. You can disable SB Emulation in the Device Mangler after the drivers install. (best done before the requested restart).

installing win2k will NOT solve your IRQ woes. ACPI just sticks everything (for me) on one damn irq.. and it didn't cause problems, until I tried to do file sharing... and tried to install a tv card (which won't capture cause i can't force one of the devices to another irq :|)

I'm just pasting this whole post in here cause I'm lazy or tired!

That SBLive does not want to share!

I've tried it in slot 2, it shared with NIC and crashed ALOT.

I've tried it in slot 4, it shared with vid and crashed.

Now It's In 2, and the NIC is in 4, but it shares with vid again and crashes in Quake3.

I also tried removing sb16 emu from device mgr witch gave up an IRQ and put nic, vid and sound on separate IRQ's but.. errr THAT WAS A BAD THING.

I have the latest bios version and chipset drivers. Also the latest SBLive and GeForce drivers (official releases)

Please don't say Win2k or ME until next year. There is a solution, and somebody out there knows it. Ummm... it's not me. I am told it's not wise to manually set IRQ's. (If you don't know what you're doing LIKE ME!)

Please help me out here people.

You are not the first to have this problem. Search the forums here and you'll find a ton of suggestions and info. I doubt there is a patch of any sort for this issue.

I'd check the manual to see which slot uses unshared IRQ. On the A7V it is slot 3 but I see you have the KT7. I heard it mentioned that enabling the "memory hole" (in bios) on the KT7 helps also when an IRQ is shared. Enabling LPT1 IRQ sharing is another suggested fix.

My SBLive is shared with my NIC..it seems that you NIC is not very tolerant. My FA310TX doesn't have a problem with sharing its IRQ with my Live

Yes! I have been at several forums and finally made some progress methinks.

I went into SB16 Emu Properties and checked "Allow LPT sharing"

This freed up resources and was I was pleased to find these new settings.

00 System timer
01 Standard keyboard
02 Programmable Interrupt Controller
03 Communications Port (COM2)
04 Communications Port (COM1)
05 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering
05 Creative SB Live! Doh!
06 Standard Floppy Disc Controller
07 Printer Port (LPT1)
08 System CMOS/real time clock
09 SCI IRQ used by ACPI bus
10 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering
10 3D Blaster Annihilator 2
11 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering
11 Realtek RTL8139(A/B/C/8130) PCI Fast Ethernet NIC
11 VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
11 VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
12 PS/2 Compatible Mouse Port
13 Numeric data processor
14 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller
14 Primary IDE controller (dual fifo)
15 VIA Bus master PCI IDE Controller
15 Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)

I restarted a few times, ran 3D Mark 2000 benchtest and the demo, Played Quake3 online (with 16 players and full blood, marks, brass..ect. very loud) and the system seems very stable.

Thanks alot to all who responded. This thread may be of help to some others as I know I am not alone.

Now, if you will excuse me, I believe I've got some FRAGGING to do!

:D

I also use the Gladiac GTS, Live! and an FA310TX. I have the best results allowing the nic and GTS to share and leave the Live! solo. If you remove the Live! and drivers, .inf's etc. and reinstall you can do the 'custom' install and leave SB16 Emulation unselected. Or you can e-mail Creative and they will send instructions how to disable the SB16 in DOS such that it does not reinitialize itself when you boot up.

Slot 1 is empty. The nic is in slot 2 and Live! is in 4. This can vary with mainboards tho. I selected these slots and assigned IRQ's for them in BIOS and left the other slots set to "Auto".
