I want a passively cooled card for my HTPC and want HDCP to prepare for hd-dvd and bluray. I also game a little so at least a 7600GT-class or better card is preferred. Looking o spend $200 or less.

I know there are passively cooled 7600GT around, but haven't found one with HDCP. I'd be open to ATI, though I prefer nvidia since I have a nvidia mobo already.

Nope, none as of yet. Just the 7950GX2 supports HDCP at this time. I could be wrong, but it was true last I checked.

I donut see any mention of HDCP in the specs? In any case it only has one DVI output which precludes using two displays (PC monitor & TV) for HDCP content. Does anyone know if dual digital out cards (any combo of DVI and HDMI) have HDCP on both as standard or might it be limited to one?

Can't say for certain, but both the MSI 7600GT and 7900GT have the crypto-ROM and Dual Dual-Link DVI Support, so those are the most likely candidates. Haven't found enough data on them to confirm it though. MSI

BTW OP, you can add passive cooling aftermarket, to a HDCP card. That MSI is inexpensive enough after MIR to do it all in budget too I should think.

After thought: MSI is promoting them as world's first, but Sapphire beat them to market with the X1600Pro, so they should have to state first nvidia based IMHO.

S'more info on an MSI 7600 card with HDMI output at techshout and watch.impress (translated from Nipponese). Note the related link below the article to the earlier Sapphire 1600 with HDMI too.

These would be hep to combine with a mobo or soundcard with HDMI output so that rather than just 2ch PCM from ubiquitous S/PDIF, you could get 8ch out to a receiver. HDMI is apparently in the ICH8 spec and some boards do have ports on 'em, such as the GA-965P-DS4/DQ6 but I haven't stumbled across any info aboot functionality yet. Note those two GA models sport diff'rent Realtek audio -the latter also having a DD encoder but that would be superfluous and indeed undesirable compared to uncompressed PCM (if 8ch rather than 2ch).

Too bad neither are passively cooled but that could easily be remedied ;)

I haven't been able to find a card that says HDCP specifically in the specs. There is an Asus 7600GT with an HDMI port coming out. It's worth checking out, but looks like they are charging a premium - $229.

I pulled this from a CNET blurb in Uk about the card...
"Our friends at Asus popped by the CNET.co.uk offices last Friday to show us its latest graphics card. It's the Asus EN7600GT, and it's the first Nvidia-based card we've seen that features an HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface) port with HDCP (high-bandwidth digital content protection)."

Story Link

I'm sure there is a silent cooler out there that will fit it.
