Is there a noticeable difference between the 6600GT w/ 128MB memory and 256MB memory?

I am getting ready to order a 6600GT and is there a big difference between in 128 and 256 If theres not I might just stick with the cheaper one

Will 128 play most games that are out now

256mb will not be of much use in a 6600gt, because you'd need a more powerful card like the 6800gt or the x800xt that can smoothly run games at settings that require 256mb. A 6600gt is not enough to run the latest games at max settings, so 128mb should be enough.

I was looking to spend around $130 but then i saw the 256 for around $180 and wasn't sure Ok thanks Also is there a brand that I should look for like eVGA, leadtek, chaintek

nonsense, the extra 128MB does make a significant difference . . . even more so than the 9800xt vs 9800p - in today's games . . . not the old ones. . . . the benchs i remember put it much closer to the 6800NU than the std 6600GT.

unfortunately [i believe the 256-6600GT was priced rather high compared to the 128MB ver . . . in that case, you might do better to get a 6800GS if you can afford to spend just over $200]

no . . .just what i remember.

the 9800p DOES effectively use the extra 128MB vRAM in the XT . . . the GT is faster still

the 256MB version 6600GT was never widely available . . . probably because it was so close to the 6800nu. . . . Gstanfor knows a lot about it, i believe

A faster GPU is preferrable in EVERY circumstance to one with more memory. If a gpu is fast enough to really take advantage of more memory, it will have it standard.
