I have a foreign movie I purchased online (online one exists in french DVD) which came with no subtitles. Is there like an automated translator that I can create sub titles for? I really liked the film during a french movie festival here in the US, where it actually had subtitles. But now this movie is out on DVD with no subtitles, I'm wondering if there's an automated translator? I already converted the DVD to MKV file format (unfortunately opensubs or any subtitle website has yet to hear of the movie)

The movie is called "La Vie D'Artiste" (life of an artist)

There is no such thing. And it doesn't look like there are subtitle files available through google search.

What a pain... What can be done? Hire somebody to make subtitles for the movie and make my own mkv?

That would probably cost quite a bit more than the movie itself, but yes, that's pretty much your only option if the subtitles don't already exist.

I do have a lot of french movies - older ones, with: Jean-Paul Belmondo, Louis De Funes, Alain Delon, Gerrard Deppardieu, Jean Reno. All are translated in russian language...

Of course, best is to watch in original - just like read a book - best is in writers language...

Just think OP, how well does Youtube translate work? Even if you could afford such an algorithm, it would look like a incorrigible mess most of the time.
