Is there a MicroATX SocketA Motherboard that supports DDR Ram?

Topic says it all, I need one for a new project and all the microATX mobos I've seen use SDRAM 🙁

Thanks for any help guys!

Two more ... ECS K7S5A aka PC-Chips M830LR has a little baby brother K7S5M aka M831LR, this one has SDRAM and DDR slots. Coming soon: M841LR, an all-in-one based on SiS 740 single chip, featuring DDR slots and a higher performing integrated 3D VGA unit.

regards, Peter

You're in luck: Epox has an 8KHM, which is a mATX version of the ever so popular 8KHA+
Check out Epox's web page.

Ionizer86: The 8KHM looks awesome. It's just what I wanted! Thanks!!!

One question... when will the Epox Ep-8KHM be available for sale, and does the 8KHM support Athlon XP processors? Thanks!!

RDMustang: Yes they are. 831LR aka K7S5M and 841LR are definitely mATX.

(One correction however: 841 has SDRAM and DDR slots too.)

Athlon4All: No, I don't work for them. I just don't use anyone else's stuff anymore. Bang-for-the-buck ratio is unbeatable,
and if you know your way around building PCs, you just don't need 300-page manuals or support hotlines anymore ...

Peter: I'm sorry, I thought you said the K7S5A was mATX. I appreciate the ideas. So far the Epox 8KHM sounds the best since it's the 266a chipset (which was what I was wanting but didn't think anyone made one).. I just wonder when it will be out... 🙁

One other question... Do any microATX motherboards allow for overclocking? I would go with a full size ATX but the case I'm building will only fit a microATX... Thanks!

I wouldn't bother. Given a fixed budget, the price difference between a no-fuzz ECS or PC-Chips board and an "overclocker's delight" thing easily buys you much more extra power than you'd ever be able to overclock out of the more expensive board.

This computer is not a fixed budget computer. I am wanting to get the most out of this computer. I am not saying I will go for the board which can overclock (since the chipset is really more important to me), but I was wondering if any microATX motherboards CAN overclock...

Thanks Peter, great info. I agree, the bang-for-the buck of these motherboards (ECS-pcchips) is hard to beat.

My duron 700 in my pcchips m805LR put to shame my computer at work in almost any benchmark (pIII-800).

I also want to upgrade my system, which is a mATX case. I just want to get a 1GHz morgan duron, because this computer will be used by my wife only.

Now, if I can get a sis 735 mobo it will be a nice upgrade. Do you have any idea where and when I can get one of these babies???

Either the K7S5M or the M831LR will leave me very pleased.

... your 805 might well take a Morgan Duron, if it isn't too old. What's the board revision?

regards, Peter

<< Hello, There is the Chaintech 7SID. It goes for around $80 or so on Pricewatch.com. HTH, eplebnista >>

This isn't meant to be a thread crap, but avoid this motherboard like the plague. I and many others have gotten this board DOA. I for one will never ever buy a Chaintech product again.

I built up a system with an Aopen MK7A for my wife and it's pretty good, the AMD chipset isn't very sexy but it's very stable, and the board has NO (as in ZERO) overclockability.

Pete

Thanks Peter, I am afraid it will not take the morgan duron. The bios is dated Sep 2000, and I got the board in November 2000. It should be revision 1.0.

I haven't opened the computer to check it. I tried to get the bios for the same board from amptron, the latest update to the bios was Dec 2000 (same date as the pcchips bioses).

I will try the K7VZM bios rev 3.0, which accepts the morgan and palomino. However, Peter, if you know where I can get the K7S5M (m831lr) let me know... Sis 735 under the hood.... sweet!

I'm holding out for the Epox 8hkm myself. It only recently appeared on their site, and it usually takes about a month for new stuff to get ordered, shipped, distributed etc. Add some delays for the season, I'm expecting late January- just a guess. I'm looking for a home for the DDR I bought as a hot deal from BestBuy, also for the Alpha 8045 I couldn't live without- the Epox might be one of a few microboards that will accept this monster. I'm hoping that the 8hkm will overclock, no reason it shouldn't....

Few microboards have o/c features- the Soltek sl-75kiv has all of 'em, except it only uses sdram, and they emailled me that their current batch won't run xp's....
