I coulda swore I heard something like this on the radio, some advertisement for a major bank. I can't seem to find it based on cursory views of the websites of Bank One, Bank of America Washington Mutual and Compass Bank..is there one I'm missing? I am currently a Chase customer, and am happy with them, but I'd like to get them to do this for me (it'd be more convinent, espically since I'm leaving for college this fall). TIA.

Several banks reimburse for ATM charges including some internet banks (ING Direct and Netbank will give you $50 for opening a new savings account) and B&M banks do this. I've yet to meet a bank which reimburses ALL of your ATM charges, I think the max is usually 6 times a month?

Washington Mutual is always advertising almost everything is free at their bank I would call them at 1.800.756.8000, tell them which state you reside in and ask them your questions.

Also local credit unions are awesome about fees. If you want more information regarding INGDirect.com and Netbank.com's $50 free offer, PM me.

I had an account with them for a few yeras, they are not bad

Also you might want to look around your area for ATMs that are free of charge ... (like the Presto-Tellers at every Publix in Florida)

I actually got a Wells Fargo account simply because half the ATMs I ever encounter are Wells Fargo machines. No fee to use your own bank's ATM.

Maetryx brings up a good point, which I had assumed is only common sense but I'll ask it anyway.

Is there a bank which has branches/ATMs in your current city and where you'll be attending college? If there is, open an account with them.
