is there a low priced/value LCD with a resolution higher than 2048x1152?

im currently using a samsung 23" lcd with 2048x1152, i paid $200 for it a couple of months ago. it seems the next step up (in resolution) would be 2560x1600 but i only see 30" LCDs that have that res and they are about $1000 or more for one (b/c they are IPS panels i presume).

going from $200 to $1000 for a LCD seems a bit much. is there anything else out on the market that can fill the gap at a higher resolution than current LCD? will there be new LCDs with more resolutions to choose from?

There's the new 27" iMac with 2560 x 1440 res. Unfortunately no other monitors have that res at the moment, but I think we'll see something by CES from the likes of Dell. Just don't expect it to be cheap at launch.

im already at 1152p, i wouldn't mind going a bit over 1200p for an upgrade, perhaps 1440 or 1600 vertical pixels, more would even be better

i sure hope something comes out

Only thing I can suggest is to watch Dell's Outlet Store and see if you can catch a refurb. Otherwise, no there is not anything less than $1000 for what you seek and there won't be for a very long time.

Resolutions above 2048x1152 are still most definitely enthusiast/professional.

Personally I'm surprised that the prices on some resolutions above 1080p have dropped so much they are now also mainstream.

I take it you have this one:

Its still $199 - looks like a great deal and you'd be hard pressed to find anything that will give you the same bang for buck. I think I'll [ick up one of these. I've been working on a 28" Hanns-G monitor at 1920 x 1200. This monitor was fine with Windows XP, but look like crap with Windows 7. The reason is all the cleartype in Windows 7, and I haven't found a way to completely remove it. Windows 7 looks great on my 24" Soyo, which has smaller pixels. You need a high pixel density for clear type to really look good - IMO.
