Is there a huge difference between 90mm and 92mm fans?

I hope to be placing an order with BGMicro sometime today, but they don't seem to have any kind of 90mm fans out there. I am assuming that I have 2 90mm fans in the window of my case, as I've measured them, and they are exactly 3 1/2 inches wide and tall (afterall, 90mm = 3.54 inches).

Is there a possibility that I can get 92mm fans (9.62 inches) and the holes still line up? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I really don't know!

I wouldn't say 2mm is huge, but I think it would be big enough to not make the screw holes line up.

I think if your case has the holes pre-cut, then they are for 92mm fans. I've never seen a computer case labeled as having "90mm" fan holes, always 92mm. Same for fans for computers, always 92mm.

What I'm getting at is the 92mm fans should be the right fan for your case.

If you post the brand/model of your case, maybe someone here can verify if it will fit.

90/92mm fans are interchangeable. I haven't quite figured out why some are labeled 90, some 92, but if you go and a 90mm fan and a 92mm fan, and lay them on top of each other, they're the EXACT same size.

It's one of those little retarded but confusing things present in computers.

They call 'em 90mm for the same reason that the others are called 60, 70, 80 etc. mm - for convenience. None of em' are exact on the 10s. 120mm are actually 119mm, etc. No matter what they call 'em, the mounting holes are on standard center spacings - no problemo. The original spec was in inches anyway (3 1/8" is the actual spec for 80mm, etc.).

I just ordered 80mm fans and when they arrived realised they're too small and my fans are more like 90mm. I can't find anything about the official size of my computer's fans (hp compaq 5800), does anybody know if it takes two 90/92mm fans? I just don't want to make another mistake.
