The thought came to mind today about all the government agencies that I don't like (I will not name them to avoid a flame war on that topic). After a good 15 minutes of trying to think of an agency that I can say that I am happy with, I couldn't come up with a single one. Can anyone name a governent agency or department that you are please with, and why?

I work for the division of workforce services. At least the only thing we do day in and day out is try and help people out of poverty and dependence. It is an awsome task, given limited budgets, and understaffed, to meet the demand for so many out of work and in need of help. I am proud to be a part of that kind of group. There is no discrimination, and all are welcome who need help up. :)

All of the agencys do well, within their structure. What goes astray is direction.
Leadership - Peers structuring sets in and personalities try to drive objectives.
Political motivations may be rewarded, The boss gets his way.

You cannot prevent strong personalities from overwhelming the agenda.

"The Government" is after all made up of a whole bunch of you and I.. individual Americans. If you dont like the agency it is a direct reflection of the persons within it, and the policies they are responsible for establishing and enforcing. If you dont like an agency, the only way to change it is to change the people and or its policies.

The Government isnt some "thing" that came from outerspace and has taken control over your people. This is a government of the people and for the people and created by, operated by, you and I and our neighbors.

To make changes YOU HAVE TO GET INVOLVED.

GET INVOLVED !

Well put. Either get into the voting by studying the candidates and understanding their issues and agenda,
Or get yourself on the ballot, or help put a candidate on the ballot that supports your view.
Polititians do not have the right to prevent others from challenging their holding of office,
but some seem to have endless pocketbooks to pay others to say so.

Think about what you said...the government is made up of people like us....I don't think so...The government is made up of well off people, who had connections that got them on the ballot. Those people then decide which agency gets how much money.

The government has evolved from a system that elected peers to a system that is basically a popularity contest. Don't get me wrong, I am not pro-anarchy, anti-establishment, or someone that hates our country. I just think that the government is out of touch with the common person. If you wrote President Bush, would he even read the letter? No. If you write your congressman, will he read it? No, his aid will.

IIRC the Republican party platform has been promising the abolition of the Department of Education as well as the reduction in size of many other federal agencies since Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980. Last time I checked the Republicans are the majority party in the House, Senate and hold the Presidency yet the Department of Education is in little danger of being abolished. In fact the Republicans can now proudly say they have created their very own brand spanking new agency (Homeland Security) to waste even more money. I was able to watch them decorate the Transportation Security Agency buildings they took over from MCI in Arlington a week ago with some of those fine ugly jersey walls that the feds seem to love placing around all federal property these days.

The VA -- Veterans Administration

Because... Generally, it is run by a Disabled American Vet... But, more importantly it tends to respond to the needs of the Vet.... in time. Unlike many other Departments of the Executive.. With in the budget constraints it does a fairly good job... Of course I can only speak for my experience at the La Jolla VA Regional Hospital.. but, there it is top line. The paper work side of things tends to get a bit slow.. very slow.. and that seems to be programed in... as a result of, again, the budget constraints..

Social Security is another fine department when it comes to service... better than expected for any issue I've put to it for myself and others.
