Is There A GOP Connection To The Moonies?

shifrbv

Senior member
I thought I had seen it all until I came across this interesting story about the GOP/Moonie connection.

Parents Day shows links of Moon's church to GOP

And for those that don't believe that we do in fact have a national "Parent's Day"

PUBLIC LAW 103-362 (H.J. Res. 398); October 14, 1994

The fact that Mrs. Moon was speaking on Capitol Hill should be enough to scare anyone in their right mind away. And what about Bush Sr. giving speeches during the late 90's on behalf of Moon to the tune of 100's of thousands of dollars?

In addition, it's been reported that Moon himself was commended during Bush Jr.'s January 19, 2001 "Prayer Luncheon" and that the Moonie's, Pure Love Alliance, a sexual abstinence advocacy group in place in schools and universities around the US, could be a beneficiary of funding from Bush's faith-based charity initiative if it is signed into law.

With the track history of the Moonies, I have to wonder, if the devil himself came calling, would the Republicans eagerly welcome him in?

"I don't think any of these guys are particularly sweet on the Unification Church," said Philip Schanker, president of the church's Family Federation for World Peace. "Even if they disagree with the church, they support family values.

shifrbv, does shifrbv stand for chit for brains? I don't know why but that is the way I always read it after scanning your posts.

Damn.....now that's diggin'....😉 Clinton signed that into law?????🙁 Wish he would have had the balls to just say no huh?🙂

Etech - Say what you will, but when you've got Moon controlling the Washington Times (which heavily influences the Washington scene), ex-Presidents giving lectures around the world for his causes, schools across the country instituting his PLA, and Moon himself teaming up with other religous-right figures well known within the GOP like Jerry Falwell, it would be foolish to think there is no connection.

You don't get honored at presidential luncheons and speak on Capitol Hill unless you're looked at by the establishment as somebody worthwhile.

Why is it when conservatives question lefty ties to Communism and Socialism, they're called "paranoid, right-wing, militia, gun nuts and kooks", but when the Left tries to gin up cult fright of the Moonies and try to make it appear that they control the GOP, it's the absolute truth?

Oh yeah, that's right...liberals are full of manure.

I'm sorry if I won't roll over and fall for a idiotic conspiracy theory like that. As has been pointed out, it was Pres. Clinton that signed the parents day into law. If someone gives a talk or even accepts money for giving a talk does that automatically make them a supporter of that group.
Please say yes, I'll have a lot of fun digging up groups that democrats have spoken to and received money from.

aww what the heck, here's a free one.

National Parents' Day is America's newest day of commemoration, signed into law by President Bill Clinton on Oct. 14, 1994, following unanimous adoption by the United States House of Representatives and Senate, and endorsed by 39 state governors.

hmmm, how many democrats voted for that?

snakesnfrogs - What about Gore's shady connections?---or any other politician's shady connections, for that matter.

True. But those deals were only about money. Despicable as they may have been, they were financial transactions and not unlike those also attributed to Bush Jr.

Where I think this differs is that you have a recognized cult which has been frequently monitored by the CIA in the past making it's way onto Capitol Hill. What the Moonies do goes far beyond questionable money transactions. They're more into mind control. Any influence they have within the GOP's family values platform could well go beyond money and into the realm of their spiritual beliefs which I view as dangerous for the American people.

chit for brains, you have failed to provide one iota of proof that the moonies are in any way connected to the GOP, innuendo and tenuous logic aside.

Just for fun, I ran across this while on another search.

Sympathy for the Devil

Maureen Dowd

(Published in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Tuesday, March 17, 1998, p. 4B)

Time's cover story last week on "Primary Colors" offers an incendiary hypothesis about the movie's Bill Clinton clone, Jack Stanton.

"He shows up occasionally to bring fear, awe, or happiness to the mortals who are at center of the story," Time's Richard Corliss writes. "He asks them to slaughter their first principles, hurls plagues of tabloid headlines their way, gives their lives meaning and hope with his captious majesty. Except, of course, that Jack isn't God. In luring his team toward corruption, twisting their idealism into Realpolitik, Stanton is Satan."

Well, Mr. President, this is a case of you know you're in trouble when ... You know you're in trouble when all the Hollywood liberals and Scientologists do their best to soften Joe Klein's mordant novel and give you a valentine--and the sweetened version depicts you as Lucifer.

It had occurred to me that Bill Clinton's swelling popularity could be explained by America's love of bad boys and anti-heroes. He's the charming Butch Cassidy to Kenneth Starr's relentless Pinkerton man. Hillary and Bill are the joyriding Bonnie and Clyde to Kenneth Starr's killjoy Texas Ranger.

It had even occurred to me that Bill Clinton was so preternaturally lucky he seemed have cut a deal with the Devil. Given the carnage that always surrounds Clinton and the fact that he always smilingly walks away stronger than ever, I could easily see him as Faust or Dorian Gray or Joe Hardy in "Damn Yankees."

But in light of the latest triumphs of the president--in public opinion, at least, he has vanquished the hymn-singing, holyrolling Starr, as well as Paula Jones, Monica Lewinsky, Linda Tripp and the Nosy Parkers of the press--Time is right. We must think cosmically about this.

Perhaps Bill Clinton is the Devil. It would explain a lot. Certainly, Hillary Clinton is condemned to her own little hell. Certainly, the voters have closed their eyes and made their pact with the Devil: Keep us prosperous and we won't hold you to any special moral or ethical standards.

The Mephistophelean scenario has a wonderful logic. It would explain the extraordinary level of human sacrifice around Bill Clinton--why so many people around him end up dead, jailed, betrayed, shackled, exiled, subpoenaed, depressed, humiliated, broke, ruined and smeared. (And, in the case of poor Buddy, neutered.)

James McDougal dies abruptly, a broken, crazy man, in solitary confinement in federal prison while his ex-business partner has more lives than a black cat.

It explains why our moral universe has turned upside down. It's fine if, Clinton preaches against tobacco one day, and the next goes to a fund-raiser given by a lawyer trying to reap a tobacco windfall.

Even the angelic seem possessed. Billy Graham telling Katie Couric that the president should be forgiven all because "the ladies just go wild over him"? Why should Clinton have to show any responsibility when he is deemed an innocent victim of his own sex appeal by the nation's most respected preacher?

You expect the feminists' heads to rotating on their necks any moment now. They've abandoned everything they've fought for all these years to join the let devils-be-devils chorus--as long as the sex is consensual or the president at some point, sooner or later, eventually takes no for an answer.

Instead of racing to the White House and beating the stuffing out of Bill Clinton, Monica's father waits a month and gives an interview to Barbara Walters. Dr. Benard Lewinsky ignored the fact that Clintonites were trashing his daughter as a troubled temptress, and said he couldn't imagine. this scandal would erode confidence in the president. In loco parentis fades into the loco parent.

shifrbv,

You're dipping pretty deep in the BS pile to expose your blatant bias against one political party and mindless sheep-like support of another political party.

In fact, I don't think I've seen a single thread or post from you that isn't a mindless plug for the Democrat party, or a shameless gossip column-esque jab at the Republican party. And to top it off, you rarely discuss the issues, instead you pitch shovel fills of supposed "dirt" about the party you have an obvious bias against.

Just what IS your agenda on these boards? Are you some kind of troll Democrat activist?

The only thing republicans are losing is their patience with looney liberals 🙂 Not all liberals, just the looney ones

Religious Right Joins Rev. Moon At Pro-Bush Inaugural Luncheon

Don't you think that it's pretty strange that Bush gets into office and first thing automatically calls for January 19 to be dedicated for a prayer luncheon which just happens to be paid for by the Reverend Moon's Washington Time's?

Top leaders of the Religious Right, including Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) President James Merritt, were among the crowd at a Jan. 19 "Inaugural Prayer Luncheon for Unity and Renewal" sponsored by an arm of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon?s Unification Church.

The Washington, D.C., event was put on by The Washington Times Foundation, a non-profit group founded by Moon. The controversial Korean evangelist, who preaches that he is the new messiah sent by God to complete the failed mission of Jesus, spoke at the event and received an award for his work in support of family values, the Moon-owned Washington Times reported.

Some of the Baptist leaders later claimed they had no idea the luncheon was sponsored by Moon and were clearly embarrassed by their participation in an event advancing the agenda of the self-proclaimed new messiah.

"I was shocked to see that Sun Myung Moon was on the program and in essence the host," Chapman told the Baptist Press News Service. "I was even more surprised on the way out of the banquet hall to be given a propaganda book on the Unification Church."

Remember, this is the same Moon who's daughter went on 60 Minutes talking about abuse in the cult and the same Moon who has been investigated in many places around the world, including by our own CIA, for various crimes. Why should this guy have ever been invited by the Bush team to such an important event if he did not weild some sort of stature? Pretty scary if you ask me.

OK. So you don't like George W. Bush. Nor do you like the Republicans. We heard you the first time. Now shut the fvck up, please.

AmusedOne - In fact, I don't think I've seen a single thread or post from you that isn't a mindless plug for the Democrat party, or a shameless gossip column-esque jab at the Republican party.

Come on, I've posted 2 political threads in the last month. I guess you haven't been reading any of my other posts to see that they're not all political. 1 in which I clearly admonished the Democratic party and this one which I'm wondering why the Bush administration is letting Moon host prayer luncheons for the White House. I, probably like most people out there, didn't know about it and thought others might be interested in discussing it. Guess not.

Bumping for the day crowd and if you don't like it, move on.

In addition, the secret service approved the inaugural luncheon even though:

In March of 1989, U.S. News & World Report noted that Moon has stated that his aims include the "subjugation of the American government and population.
