Hi all,
At the Uni lab I tech at we have a pair of firewire external DVD burners that we got about 2 years ago. They stopped operating recently and I did a little research and discovered that their warranties were up so I decided to open them up. They are regular IDE Pioneer DVR-A03 burners and seem to work apart from the casing in a computer imtesting them with. I got the drive to burn a CD without issues, but I am not sure I can trust them. Is there a utility that can stress test an optical drive or do a very thorough write/read test to make sure it is operating correctly? I am mainly concerned because in the casing they were apparently getting power but the tray would not eject (from the case's button or the drive's eject button directly.) and they could not be seen by any machine I hooked them up to.
