Is there a good video card with tv output anywhere?

In the last 3 months I have bought two video cards with tv out, and neither worked well. The graphics on my monitor look good, but if I move it to the TV, they get really choppy. I was using a s-video output, so I am thinking the graphics should get pretty decent with the right card. The cards I bought were very cheap(just over 100), but I don't want to buy a good card unless I KNOW it will be good. I am looking to spend around 200, but possibly more if I have a very good recommendation. If anyone has had good luck with a card please post.

I have a athlon k7 at 700 running at 900, 3x128mb crucial ram, abit ka7, chitty video card, ......

Also, if anyone wants a video card, they can look on egay in the next week!!! I got two.

Matrox Marvel G400 TV. You'll love the video capture as well. TV out at 1024x748.

Thanks for the reply. Looking at this card, I noticed it's only 16mb. I am looking for something with good 3d capabilities as well for the newer games. I think I would be better off looking for at least 32mb. Is their any tv out cards that have the good 3d graphics as well as able to output to tvs at high resolutions.

the G400 comes in 32meg versions, but you may want to look at th G450 DDR 32meg card.

I also really like the ASUS ViVO for your standard consumerlevel video in/out (and supervideo too). You can get an ASUS Geforce ViVO in many varieties, great for games. Only downside is 2D quality at 21" monitor resolutions like 1600x1200.

The Leadtek GTS card has S/video TV out and is one of the higher rated GTS cards. I've only had a chance to try the TV out once, played a Divx movie and the quaility was good, also tried a couple games with the TV out and they looked pretty good too. I think it can display 640x480 and 800x600 TV output. You can get it for $179 here with free shipping which is a good price.

btw, the text wasn't so hot but I think that can be expected with any TV out card as a television just doesn't have nearly the resolution or quaility that a monitor has, unless of course your pick-up yourself a HDTV for 5 G's.

Any ATi card with the Rage Theater chip. That would include

Any Radeon with TV-out
32MB Rage Fury PRO
32MB All-in-Wonder PRO
32MB All-in-Wonder 128

Anything with a Brooktree or Conexant chip will be crap. Chrontel chips are OK, but Rage Theater is the best.

800x600 or 1024x768 won't make a bit of difference on a TV - TV's are quite a bit less than 640x480 native resolution.

The difference will matter if you use both Monitor and TV at the same time. I don't play anything at less than 1024x768, and in many cases the TV is used to allow others to view what is happening on the monitor.

bendecko, you can get a permanent solution by looking for a PC to TV scan converter. This will allow you to keep or upgrade video cards in the future, without having the need to pay the added cost of TV out on each and every one. They have made a lot of advances in scan converters lately, with quality as good or better than most Video cards TV output. Also, most will do higher resolution, with some up to 1600x1200 output on a TV. Most usually have more features than video card TV outputs do. A cheap one that will do 1024x768 is AverKey imicro, for around $75, and this card gets great reviews from people that own it. Another good brand to look into is Focus TView.

I would agree that a scan converter is the best option. Then you have TV-out capability regardless of the video card you have now or in the future.

Thanks for all the help. I decided to give the convertor a try. Sounds like a good choice. I'm going to try the AverKey imicro, hope it works well. I am going to buy a new video card, so if it doesn't work, I will at least have a good new card.
