Is there a good replacement for my Slot 370 Celeron?

(I hoping I'm posting in the right place)

A while back you guys were great about helping me with my first attempt to build my on computer (THANKS!), and now I need your help again, please.

I built one based on the ABIT SL6, using a Slot 370 566 Celeron (still works fine, of course) planning to try overclocking a little, and replacing it with a higher speed CPU as prices came down. Well, I waited a little too late for that maybe.

I talked to the local DIY shop, and they said there were a couple of kinds of Celerons, and the one that would work on my board (maybe) was a 1.0G priced at about $159.00!

Can someone give me some good advice on what I can do with this board as regards chip upgrade and the best value available now?

I don't do anything special on the computer, just home/home office (MS Office, photo stuff for real estate business), family and games programs.

Thanks again for your help, and suggestions!

Ken

Still works great

You could get one of those adapters... and buy a 1.1A Celeron for like $40... and you can pretty much overclock it to 1.4 stable... should last you another year or so. :D You can also pull out some pins on the chip itself so you don't have to buy the adapter but i doubt you'd wanna do that, it works fine i've done it 4 times already. :) Good luck!

You can drop in a Coppermine based Celeron 1G or 1.1G, or a PIII. If you want to put in a Tualatin, you need one of these. From there, a Tualatin Celeron 1.1A @ 133 FSB = 1.46 Ghz would do.

The tualatin cellys are great, I used a powerleap (didn't want to mess with the pin mod, and a got powerleap cheap) slot 1 to s370 adapter, and with the 1.0A I hit 1500 (150mhz fsb!) on default voltage. It kills the celly 850@1.1 I had before! Very nice upgrade, well worth the effort.

Asus P3V4X + Slot-T + 1.1 GHz Celeron (100 FSB) @1.46 GHz (133 FSB).

$20 for a Slot-T (+ $8 S&H) + $41 for the 1.1 GHz Celeron (free S&H) = $69. Not too bad.

Thanks very much for all the help.

I went to the site linked in all the emails and think I have found what I need. Strattoncomputer.com has an adapter that looks like a good match.

I think my computer is headed toward a welcome upgrade!

Looks really simple and foolproof ;) ! Any pitfalls I need to be aware of?

Any other recommended vendors to pick up the adapter and proc ?

Thanks again!
