Is there a good "Networking 101 and up" course online?

I like building computers and stuff but have never really delved into networking since I assumed it was all plug and play. At home it was like that but now I'm running into problems at my work and since they see me as "the computer guy" i try to fix things but it takes a long time because i have to research it. i'd like to find a resource that can explain the basics and up from there.

Cisco.com under learning has some good resources. 1examamonth.com has some nice goodies too.

Network Warrior is a decent book for a primer on a little bit of everything.

Network Warrior is available as a free download (ebook) on a google search. It covers most if not all the basic ideas in networking and how to configure them on mostly Cisco products, although, the actual explaining of the networking parts is what you'd be after. Go check it out, and you'll be decently versed in networking after not so long.

I wish I knew about Network Warrior prior to starting my studies. It's not going to make you good enough to pass many certifications, but it's a nice (and easy to read) overview and semi-deep dive into most of the things you will encounter just starting off.

I agree with that. I read it along with my CCNA studies and it was very nice to read for breaks, and in some cases more detailed explanations for several things. Learned about GRE Tunnels from Network Warrior for example which isn't covered in CCNA.

It's chapters are short and concise, so you just read one and stop if you're tired. Overall it was a great find for me as an aid.
