Is there a good motherboard that uses DDR and SDRAM both

I was wondering if a good AMD motherboard exisits that had some DDR and some SDRAM slots. Two of each for example. I am asking this so i can use my existing SDRAM and buy some DDR in the future. Another question is it effecient to use the two types at once if you use both at the same time.

You're limited to 2 options. Asus A7A266-E and ECS K7S5A. Both solid boardsa, A7A266-E has some ocing, while K7S5A has practically none. I'd lean for the K7S5A if overclocking doesn't matter, but I'd not hesitate to get the A7A266-E if you want limited ocing. Oh and, you can't use both at the same time. One or the other. It depends on what you need your system to do.

There are alternatives to the ECS board. PCChips m830lmr, Amptron m830. These boards are based on the same chipset and are basically the same. However, I still prefer the PCChips board.

The micro ATX board m831lr has both types of ram slots as well.

You will get the best performance from these mobos using DDR only.

You will get good performance using SDR only.

You will get zero (nada, nichts, rien, zilch) performance trying to use both at once.

Iron woode, these "alternatives" you named are the EXACT SAME board as the ECS. PC-Chips and ECS
are the same company, and Amptron is a reseller of both. Even the BIOS is the same, except for
the name string. Depending on where you buy them, there might be differences in the accessories
you get in the box.

rjcoolpix, no matter which board and who made it, they're all SDRAM-or-DDR, not mixable.

Yea, there's really no difference between K7S5A, PC Chips M830LMR Amptron m830 and all the other PC CHips' duplicates of ECS boards except the PC Chips often have Modem's on-board.

Well, that confuses me somewhat. Of course DDR is going to be faster, but are you asking if a say Shuttle AK31A (VIA KT266A, only DDR slots) would be faster than a K7S5A with DDR? Well, slightly, but it has nothing to do with the DDR and SDR slots, its simply SiS 735 is about 5% slower than KT266A but that's not significant. Again, though, I will stress that you cannot mix SDR and DDR at the same time. It just doesn't work. When you are using SDRAM and then upgrade to DDR, you must take out the SDR and put in the DDR in the right slots.

I know they are basically the same board. I stated that above. They are all part of a much larger company. The point I was making was it maybe easier for him to find some of the alternatives in his home town and therefore has the ability to have a place to return any defective boards to easily.

Its just personal preference that I prefer PCChips over ECS.

Get the Shuttle AK32, both SDRAM & DDR. I have
built 3 systems with it and that is because it is
extremely stable and overclockable. Good luck!
