Hi guys,

I use both Linux and Windows, Linux being my favorite of course :) . I recently installed google desktop search in windows. I have grown to like the speed of the results. Is there an app or program that allows you to do index searches in linux as good as google and spotlight do.

In case you didn't know spotlight and google desktop search search withing a variety of file formats. Here is a link:

Thanks,

find and grep don't compare to the search results provided by gds and spotlight. Find and grep can't search within different file formats and return the results extremely fast :(

That's the spirit! Except it doesn't have any of the special options pertaining to file attributes.

I can't think of anything like what he wants, mostly because the standard solution is organization and descriptive file names. Most of us are still scratching our heads over this entire "desktop search" phenomenon, because we see no use for it.

Nope, a lot of the guys on Ars have but I don't really have a need for something like that.
