is there a free sandbox application ?

sandboxie is sort of free.
free to try but I recommend paying for it if you like it, it is an awesome program. I always run my browser an email inside it. Nothing can get into the system that way.

sandboxie is a different type of sandboxing application compared to the above but works nicely depending on what you're trying to do.

Since you mentioned vmware though I'd assume the former.

I prefer Virtualbox. It's light and works fairly well for my uses. I just virtualize an XP box for testing software. Best thing is it doesn't run a million services like vmware does.

That test was a joke. Sandboxie wasn't the problem there, it was the dumbass that was running every program he downloaded.

What you seem to be asking for is something like usermode Linux or Linux vserver, neither of which have a Windows equivalent AFAIK.
