Is there a Free DVD player WITH decoder out there?

I rebuilt my rig and my the old player that came with my win98 gateway POS doesn't work in XP.

Thanks in advance.

From Digital Digest web site

<< Looking for a "Free" and "Good" DVD player? Stop looking, because none exists. If you want a good DVD player (great quality playback + excellent user interface), you'll have to pay for it, since the licensing fees that software companies have to pay for CSS/Dolby/DTS will mean that there is no way they can offer it for free. >>

The best DVD player for XP is PowerDVD 4.0 in my opinion. Unfortunately it's not free. But I think you can get it for about $11-$14 shipped from www.newegg.com.

No it won't. You either need a WORKING decoder installed (i.e., one that works correctly with its own player program, like PowerDVD 4.0 or WinDVD 3.0) or you need a "DVD Pack" specifically for XP from one of the major software DVD player vendors. Those all cost $14.99, coincidentally. PowerDVD is cheaper than that from Newegg.

If you know a friendly local shop, they may be pursuaded to sell you an OEM copy without you purchasing a DVD drive ;)

But don't tell anyone I told you so.
