Is there a free App that will play HD videos on Nook Color?!

I swear I've installed and uninstalled literally 7 apps to play HD videos for my kids on the original Nook Color. They are still choppy on some particular videos. I thought I was missing codecs, but not all the apps have them? I don't know. Is it the limitations of the hardware or am I just running into bad luck? (CM10 by the way). Thanks.

Its too weak to play even low bitrate 720p h264 video. We are talking an old SoC here- the hardware decoder stops at 854x480. The CPU lacks the NEON power to go much higher than that for software decoding. Only 720p video that can be played requires a less powerful codec (like Divx or MPEG2).

If you want I can go dig up my handbrake setting for the device if you are willing to re-encode.

Was that english, lol? What are you saying, you are going to give me the best format and then I would re-encode the videos?

He's saying the Nook Color is old and has never been able to play HD video. There's a program called Handbrake that will re encode them to something smaller.

Yeah sorry, I once was really into the Nook Color's video limitations. The trick is to re-encode in Handbrake then one of the better players (MX Player is what I recommend) will be able to use the non-CPU hardware to decode the file which will give you longer playback time on the battery.

First get Handbrake if you don't have it:

http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php

Here is my exported presets which should have my Nook Color one among them. Just make sure the output is 854x480 or less after import into Handbrake for the Nook Color setting:

Thanks, so I take the video that I'm playing and re-encode it to a specific resolution and file type, etc?

How do I open that file incidentally?

Yea exactly. You re-encode it to the max of the Nook hardware.

Play it by having something like MX Player installed and then chose that option when you select the file in a file manager like ES explorer on your SD card.
