Is there a fast way to recover BF2 Special Forces after OS reinstall?

I knew I shouldn't of purchased this game online due to reinstallation headaches but I did anyway. Now I am thinking about just buying it again through a retail store. When I first downloaded it I burned a DVD with the installation file. But it seems like EA Downloader has to have everything downloaded through it before a install will start. Any ideas???

PLEASE HELP!!!! 🙂

Not to sound like a jerk, but buy the disks next time. Downloading should never be the method of purchasing software unless you would never format your drive. I know it's not what you want to hear, but the fact is that software downloads from companies are always a headache.

^^ Sorta true, but Steam has done it well. Not only it is very fast to download things from Steam servers, but with the few clicks to backup any of your games, and it even splits them into CD or DVD file sizes. Since I'm now on slow internet, I backed up HL2, DOD:S, and CS:S before I formatted. Only 7GB for all files, and the restore only takes a few minutes each.

I own SF, but I didnt trust Dice/EA with an online download, so I went ahead with the retail purchase. Well I generally prefer retail but Steam was offering the silver package for $60 that couldn't be bought in stores, so I had to throw down.

You don't sound like a jerk but I already freaking know that. My first sentence was I knew I shouldn't of purchased online.... I am one to always want the disc but I went ahead and picked it up thinking my 1.25mb transfer rate would take care of it in less then a hour. Boy was I wrong, they have like a sub 400k transfer rate. I already knew I shouldn't of bought online. THAT IS NOT WHAT I AM ASKING ABOUT!!!!!

I am asking if anyone knows of a easy way to back up the directory and then plug the files back in so I can skip this redownload process. If there is no good method I will just go buy it. Thanks. And I hope I don't come across like a jerk, I just did not ask for a opinion on if its smart to download software, I asked about a way to fix my issue. Thanks.

Save whatever files\folders are in the C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Downloader\cache directory.

Install the EA downloader, place your backup into the cache folder.

While the above method isn't officially sanctioned or suppported by EA, it does work. 🙂

Odd, I did that today. It didn't work. That was my basic idea of how I would back it up. I copied the folder contents to a DVD , then installed the Downloader, pasted the files back into cache folder and nothing. Would not start the install. Did you actually get this to work or did you hear it worked? Thanks for helping.

Obviously closing the EA downloader (completely, tray icon and all) then restarting it after the folder is pasted in.

I honestly never tried it as I only have SF installed on one computer, but that's the 'not-really-official-but-it-is-sorta-anyway' way to do it on the EA.uk forum.

After you copied them all over, try selecting them all, right-clicking, and uncheck 'Read Only'

I have no idea if this will work, just a thought.

Hate to bring up an old topic but I am trying this out also and it's not working. Has anyone done this and had it work? I can't believe how god awful slow the download is from EA servers.
