Is there a difference between satellite cable and "cable" cable?

My dad insists that they are the same, but I told him that the satellite cable should be used just for the satellite because its digital. The Comcast cable should be a different type of cable because its carrying analog signals. Is he wrong, or am I tallking outta my ass?

You're talking out of your ass... they both use RG6 cables nowadays.

Just make sure they are RG6 cables... older 'cable' cables aren't shielded, and although they'll work for satellites, they'll have some interference... and they can't be run as long.

the cable that were using is satellite cable about 1-2 years old, and brand new I think, so we shouldnt have too much trouble

You gotta remmeber too, while cable may be digital (well, in my area there's still analog calbe and digital cable)....it's signal is affected by the wiring of your house. I ended up going w/ Sat b/c the wires in my house were so damn cheap----and the digital cable signal was horrible. Well, on top of that--they didn't at th etime have a system capable of processing a digital audio signal out---all the digital cable boxes only supported analog out....so that was a big reason too.

But---based on the last technician fro DTV that was out here----AFAIK, there's no diff technology wise b/w the digital sat signal and the digital cable signal. Most ppl do say that dig sat is clearer----but that only makes perfect sense. It's a lot easier to get a clean signal over 100 feet of RJ6 or RG6---then it is over a few miles
