Is there a difference between Miss and Ms.

Miss is a single woman.
Mrs. is of course a married woman.
Ms. is to address a woman who's status you're not sure of (or who's status is irrelevant).

What Moral Panic said!

However, people tend to use Ms. now, even when the status of the individual should be obvious.

Actually, you know, before Ms. became commonly used, it was especially used for single divorced women/older women whose statuses were unknown, whilst Miss was used for single young women.
